Chemical Irritant (OC/CS) for Instructors

Train the Trainers. Lead with Confidence.

Sharpen your skills as an OC/CS instructor—this Train-the-Trainer course delivers hands-on techniques, deployment strategies, and instructional methods for non-lethal aerosol chemical agents. Includes proficiency testing and light exposure for previously trained participants.

What This Course Is About:

This comprehensive Train-the-Trainer program is designed for law enforcement professionals who are responsible for delivering safe, defensible, and consistent training related to aerosol chemical agents.
Through a blend of classroom instruction, guided discussion, and practical application, participants will develop a solid understanding of use-of-force decision-making, legal considerations, and policy implications specific to OC deployment. The course emphasizes the proper selection, handling, and application of aerosol chemical irritants for the defense and control of combative or resistant subjects, while prioritizing officer and public safety.
Attendees will gain hands-on experience with recommended deployment techniques, post-exposure care, and risk management strategies. Special focus is placed on instructional methodology, ensuring participants are prepared to effectively present course content, facilitate learning, and evaluate officer performance within their own agencies.
This course concludes with proficiency testing, including a written examination and a practical instructional skills assessment demonstrating accurate and approved use of the course PowerPoint materials. Participants who have previously completed an OC exposure will also take part in a “light” exposure, reinforcing firsthand understanding of agent effects and reinforcing best practices for training and aftermath care.
Upon successful completion, officers will be credentialed to support department-wide OC training with confidence, consistency, and defensibility—enhancing both readiness and accountability across their organization.
